What Is Cosmetic Surgery?

Posted on 10/24/2022 by Evan
What Is Cosmetic Surgery?Cosmetic surgery is a type of plastic surgery done to enhance or change appearance rather than for health. While there are occasional exceptions, such as the repair of a congenital defect, cosmetic surgery is often a decision someone takes when they want a particular area of their body to appear a certain way.

Types of cosmetic surgery include liposuction, fat injections, fat grafting, Botox, chemical peels, Hair transplantation, buttock lift, and rhinoplasty. Although cosmetic surgery can help you look better, not everyone is a good candidate.

Are You a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Surgery?

You could be a suitable candidate for cosmetic surgery if you're healthy, have realistic expectations, and know the risks associated with the treatment you're considering.

Having major health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, a bleeding condition, heart disease, or depression may preclude you from being a good candidate for cosmetic surgery. You might not be a suitable candidate for cosmetic surgery if you smoke, consume excessive amounts of alcohol, or are fat.

You could be asked to make certain adjustments before surgery by your surgeon. For instance, some surgeons advise smokers to give up smoking two to four weeks before surgery and at least two to four weeks following surgery. This enables the body to recover from the procedure healthily. If you do not smoke, avoid passive smoke before and after surgery.

Choosing a Qualified Cosmetic Surgeon

If you decide to explore cosmetic surgery, you'll undoubtedly have your choice of surgeons. Select a surgeon who specializes in the operation you want to undergo and has received certification from a body recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Beware of certificates that are false from unrecognized or self-designated boards.

Cosmetic Surgery Recovery

You may require many weeks or even months to recover after cosmetic surgery. Identify any potential physical side effects as part of your recovery and any possible consequences the operation may have on your career and personal life.
