|Our teeth and bones are made up largely of calcium, so we need a lot of calcium in our diets to keep us strong and healthy and keep us going. Calcium aids us, especially so in the development of our teeth and provides strength for the prevention of bone breakage and to ensure our skeletons can support our bodies.
Calcium also helps in the aid of blood clotting and our muscles to contract; without calcium our bodies would cease to function. However, we are very fortunate that we have a lot of foods that provide all the calcium we need.
Foods that Provide Calcium
Always number one on everyone's list is cow's milk, as it is packed with nutrients as well as choked full of vitamins and minerals, fats and proteins.
Cheese is next up on the list, we are told a lot of times not to eat too much of it because it is high in fat and calories, but it is a great source of vitamins and minerals and it has plenty of calcium. Read the labels. Some cheeses have more calcium than others.
Beans are next and are a godsend to people living a healthy lifestyle. Beans have lots of essential vitamins and minerals and can reduce the level of “bad” cholesterol in the bloodstream – and beans are of course a good source of calcium.
Soy milk is a substance extracted from the soya bean and is used as a dietary supplement, but it is particularly high in good-quality protein and is a good source of calcium as well. Soy milk is a popular choice for vegans who choose to not drink cow's milk.
Oatmeal is generally a surprise for most, but it regulates cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels – also a good source of vitamins, minerals, and protein, and it is high in calcium.
