Fiber is Something Your Teeth Want You to Eat

Fiber is Something Your Teeth Want You to EatHaving a good smile full of healthy teeth is an asset. That is why the maintenance of oral health is usually a lifelong obligation. This involves the practice of good oral hygiene, visiting a dentist at least once every six months, and eating a well-balanced diet.

Consuming too much of the wrong foods such as soda, processed meats, and candy can cause dental problems. That is why foods that are high in fiber are recommended because they have many benefits for both your oral health and your general health.

Why Fiber-Rich Foods Are Essential for Oral Health

Fiber, also known as roughage, has countless benefits. Eating foods rich in fiber usually prevents dental problems such as gum disease, tooth decay, and cavities. Foods that are rich in fiber are also known to reduce the chances of losing a tooth by around 30%. Receding gums can also cause bone loss. Individuals who eat full-fiber foods such as bananas, leafy greens, and whole grains reduce the chance of bone loss by 24%.

Foods that are high in fiber are chewed most of the time. This process is healthy as it will stimulate the production of saliva in the mouth. Saliva is known to contain some natural antibacterial that can fight tooth decay, causing bacteria as well as bacteria that causes gum disease.

Saliva also cleans the food particles from your mouth hence ensuring that your mouth is clean. Fiber can only play a significant role in your dental health if you consume foods rich in fiber.

Supplements containing fiber are not helpful as they don't help much when it comes to dental health. You are also advised against things like fiber gummies as they contain sugars that might be harmful to your dental health instead of helpful. It is advisable to visit a dentist who will further tell you about the benefits of fiber to the teeth.
