How to Protect Your Mouth from Damage
The best way to go about protecting your mouth from damage, especially when you have veneers, is to get a custom mouth guard that is meant to protect your teeth. There are two types of mouth guards you may be choosing between. For the first, your dentist will take a mold of your mouth, and send that mold away to a lab. Once the mouth guard has been created, it will be sent back to the dentist and you will come in for a fitting to ensure it all fits properly.
The second is one that will be molded to your mouth while at the dentist's office. This one typically does not last as long, and it is not quite as effective as the first, custom-made mouth guard. However, it will help protect your teeth from most minor impacts that would otherwise damage your veneers.
Veneers typically last anywhere from five years up to 15 years. The more you protect them and follow top oral hygiene routines, the longer they are prone to last. If you want to be able to keep them looking and functioning like new, then you need to protect them anytime you go out and do something that could cause an impact right into your veneers.
