4 Causes of Chronic Bad BreathEverybody gets occasional bad breath. Though the complaint can emerge by apparent such as forgetting to brush your teeth and eating foods like garlic or onion, there times when the reason may not be as obvious.

Chronic bad breath, formally known as 'halitosis,' is one reason why many people schedule appointments with a dentist every year. Whilst bad dental hygiene is one of the popular bad breath sources, but in chronic cases, it can be caused by more severe dental or medical conditions.

Here are few causes of chronic bad breath:

Untreated Cavity

A major culprit of persistent bad breath is often untreated cavity or tooth decay. Fortunately, if the cavity is diagnosed and treated promptly, you can get rid of bad breath quite easily.

Periodontal Disease

Often, chronic bad breath can be a major indicator of periodontal (gum) disease. If you are unable to get rid of bad breath despite trying all remedies, we recommend you schedule a dental exam. If not diagnosed early, periodontal diseases can do more damage than just bad breath.

Sinus Infection

If you are somebody who's prone to a sinus infection, then your oral care isn't to be blamed. Chronic sinus is a major cause of bad breath. For this purpose, we advise you to consult with a doctor for treatment. The sooner your sinus gets fixed, the sooner you'll say goodbye to bad breath.

Drinking Coffee

Though you probably do not want to hear it, your obsessive coffee intake could potentially be the culprit behind your persistent bad breath. As coffee is highly acidic, regularly drinking can contribute to bad breath. Therefore, we suggest you find another alternative for your morning drink.

Now that you know the causes of chronic bad breath, you should also know that it can be prevented by routine exams and teeth cleanings. Contact Century Dental at (971) 708-1608
